Mode: Telephone interviews using RDD (Random Digit Dialing) for landline and cell phones

- WEIGHT: For full combined sample (used in official Pew reports)
- LLWEIGHT: For landline-only sample
- COWEIGHT: For landline + cell-only sample
Purpose:
This survey is part of Pew’s long-running Political Typology series, designed to classify Americans into distinct political groups based on values, beliefs, and party affiliation. It captures ideological diversity within and across partisan lines, offering a nuanced view of the electorate beyond the traditional left-right spectrum.
Recontact Survey:
A follow-up survey was conducted April 7–10, 2011 with 1,432 of the original respondents. This is available as a separate dataset titled 2011 Typology Recontact Survey.
Privacy Measures:
- Telephone numbers, county of residence, and zip codes have been removed
- Geographic data is derived from self-reported zip codes, with fallback to sample data if unavailable
- Original sample-based geographic variables (prefixed with s) are retained for archival purposes only
