Weights:

WEIGHT – standard weight for the combined landline + cell sample (used for Pew reports).

LLWEIGHT – for analysis of landline-only respondents.

CELLWEIGHT – for analysis of cell-only respondents.

Geographic data: Since Fall 2008, geography is based on self-reported ZIP codes. Original sample geography variables (prefixed s) remain in the dataset for archival purposes only.

Privacy protection: Telephone numbers, ZIP codes, and county identifiers have been removed.

Constructed demographic variables:

racecmb: Combines multiple race categories (White, Black, Asian, Mixed, Other, DK/Refused).

racethn: Combines race and Hispanic origin (White non-Hispanic, Black non-Hispanic, Hispanic, Other).
