Gallup Pakistan Poll on Sexual Harassment - February 2020

According to WIN World Survey (an association of survey firms), 6% respondents over the world say that they have experienced sexual harassment in the past year.

This is a series of polls being released in honor of International Women’s Day, celebrated on the 8th of March every year.

A sample of 29,368 men and women from 40 countries across the globe was asked, “In the past year, would you say you’ve experienced sexual harassment?”. 6% of the respondents said they have experienced sexual harassment, while 92% said they have not. 2% did not know or did not respond.

Nearly 1.2 million adults in Pakistan have experienced sexual harassment A lower proportion of Pakistanis (1%) reported to have experienced sexual harassment, while 4% did not wish to respond.

Note: Considering the sensitivity of the topic and stigma surrounding it, the reported figure is likely to be much lower than the actual number of people who have experienced sexual harassment.

Global gender breakdown: A higher proportion of females, and students report sexual harassment Analysis on the basis of gender shows that 3% males, and 9% females have experienced sexual harassment in the past year. Among females, the highest was reported among respondents aged 25-34 years, with 12% saying they have experienced sexual harassment, and 2% of those aged 65 and above experienced it. Students constitute the highest proportion of female respondents (17%) that reported experiencing sexual harassment.

Country wise analysis: Highest proportion of sexual harassment reported in Peru The highest sexual harassment was reported by respondents in Peru (19%), followed by Mexico (17%). Indonesia, Italy, China and Vietnam and the lowest proportion of respondents who said they had been sexually harassed, with each less than 1%.
