According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup & Gilani Pakistan, 70% Pakistanis believe that the government should ban Afghan migrants’ entry.
A representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked, “Some people are of the opinion that the Pakistani government should ban Afghan migrants’ entry while others think they should be allowed to enter. What is your opinion?” In response, 70% claim that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned, 25% say it should be allowed and 5% say they did not know/did not wish to remember.
Urban-Rural Breakdown: Relatively higher proportion of rural residents believe that Pakistani government should ban Afghan migrants’ entry
Out of the total urban respondents, 67% said that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned in Pakistan while 27% believed they it should be allowed. Out of the total rural respondents, 71% believed that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned in Pakistan while 24% believed it should be allowed.
Age Breakdown: Higher proportion of respondents above 50 years of age believe that Pakistani government should ban Afghan migrants’ entry
Out of the respondents aged under 30, 69% said that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned in Pakistan while 27% believed they it should be allowed.
Amongst Pakistanis aged between 30 and 50, 68% believed that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned in Pakistan while 26% believed it should be allowed.
From those aged above 50, 87% said that Afghan migrants’ entry should be banned in Pakistan while only 9% believed they it should be allowed.
