Weights:

WEIGHT – standard weight for the combined landline + cell sample (used for Pew reports).

LLWEIGHT – for analysis of landline-only respondents.

COWEIGHT – for analysis of landline RDD + cell-only cases (excluding cell RDD respondents who also reported having a landline).

Split Form Experiment:

Conducted with Q.70 and Q.71.

Q.70 asked respondents to choose between two statements with a follow-up on strength of opinion.

Q.71 asked the same choice without a strength measure.

Results showed no significant differences, so topline results are presented in merged variables (q7071a–q7071e).

Geographic data: Since Fall 2008, geography is based on self-reported ZIP code. If missing, sample-provided data are used. Original sample geography variables (prefixed s) are retained for archival purposes.

Privacy protection: Telephone numbers, ZIP codes, and county identifiers have been removed.
